Fader Fort

We spent Saturday of SXSW 2016 at the Fader Fort where our main targets of the day were Anderson Paak and Kelela. I've been all over Paak's Malibu album since its release and Kelela has been putting out one great track after another for a few years now. I still go back to her Cut 4 Me mixtape regularly, so seeing them back to back to close out SXSW was an easy choice. Too bad the denizens of the Fader Fort seemed not to know or care much about either of them. Drake was rumored (accurately as it turned out) to be secretly headlining that night and it seemed that most of the crowd was simply waiting on him to take the stage.

At this point, I've decided that the Fader Fort is just a really fun place to hang out and usually has great sets at the DJ booth between acts, but the main stage is often a terrible place to catch anything other than a headlining hip-hop act. Despite being the buzz of SX all week, even Anderson Paak giving his all couldn't muster much a response from the crowd until the very end when he jumped off the stage and ran around, insisting on some involvement. Kelela seemed to fare even worse with the apathetic crowd.

I'm sure Drake got the crowd really pumped up a couple of hours later but we wouldn't know...we went across the street to the Hype Hotel.

Anyway, here are some pics I took on the last day of SXSW 2016:

^ Not my pic, but we were caught in the background by the Fader photographer who was getting a shot of the guy with the shoes around his neck. The artist on stage at the time, Rob $tone, had just tossed out an autographed pair of Converse tied together by the laces. When the shoes hit the ground, this guy and the guy to his left (your right, with the cup and flat brim hat) each grabbed a shoe and started tugging back and forth in what came very close to getting ugly before the one dude let go just seconds before this shot was taken.
